Over the past twenty years, following the radical restructuring of the former USSR, Russian Art has not only become more accepted in the West but is growing noticeably in popularity both here and internationally. It is this realisation that has sent Andrew Hillier on his numerous missions in recent years to Moscow and to other locations in former Soviet Union republics, to research and discover the rich and varied talents of Russian artists.
As a result, he is now firmly committed to devoting a significant part of his working time to bringing Russian Art to his galleries here in the UK, particularly at Stratford Upon Avon, with the intention of making it part of the mainstream artwork available.
Exhibitions solely dedicated to Russian art are now commonplace in Europe and the USA and major auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Christies hold dedicated sales on an increasingly regular basis. At the same time we see a growing number of commercial galleries offering exclusively Russian art both here and across Europe.
The Hillier Gallery will continuously offer a wide and diverse selection of contemporary art from many sources but will intersperse a strong and varied element from countries which were part of the former Soviet Union.
A semi reclusive and shy man in his home country of Poland, Andrzej is quietly producing some fabulous evocative artwork that seems to be capturing the imagination of art lovers worldwide who have been fortunate enough to see it. Working in oils, on canvas or board, his unique interpretation of form and space, together with an unconventional, almost mystical presentation, provide the viewer with emotional and surreal visions. His work inspires the imagination, stimulates the senses and may even provoke the viewer to investigate their own thoughts and beliefs in the light of his powerful and atmospheric images.
